Guide To A Healthy, Fun Holiday Season
How to stay healthy without missing the holiday fun

The holidays can be a blast—good food, connecting with loved ones, and endless celebrations.
But they also come with a downside: our healthy habits often get tossed aside.
Between late nights, rich meals, and jam-packed schedules, basic self-care can easily take a back seat.
The good news? Staying healthy doesn’t mean giving up the fun—it’s about balance and intention.
Here are 4 realistic tips (plus a bonus one!) to help you stay healthy and energized through the holiday season:
#1: Water first, Always
Let’s be honest: during the holidays, we’re more likely to drink everything but water.
While drinking all the soft drinks, energy drinks and alcohol, it’s easy for dehydration to sneak up on you, amplifying feelings of fatigue which is not exactly the vibe you want for holiday fun.
Making sure you’re well hydrated keeps you refreshed and also aids with digestion, combating bloating and discomfort that often comes with those heavy holiday meals.
Quick tips:
Start your day with a glass of water before breakfast.
Keep a refillable water bottle handy, especially if you’re out shopping or traveling.
Alternate alcoholic drinks with a glass of water to stay hydrated.
Eat water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, and oranges for extra hydration.
#2: Recharge to enjoy more
Holidays tend to wreak havoc on our sleep schedules.
Late-night parties, binge-watching movies, and the sheer chaos of trying to get everything done can mean not getting enough sleep.
And while you can “get away with” a few nights of poor sleep, it soon catches up with you.
Getting inadequate sleep doesn’t just leave you tired; it also weakens your immune system, making it easier for you to get sick.
A good night’s rest keeps you energized and better equipped to fully enjoy all the holiday fun without feeling tired and groggy.
Quick tips:
Stick to a somewhat consistent sleep time.
Aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep most nights.
If you’re missing out on nighttime sleep, taking a nap during the day can do wonders.
#3: Move often and enjoy it
The holidays are the perfect excuse to skip workouts—you’re having fun socializing, and working out is probably not your idea of having a good time.
But staying active doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym. Movement can incorporated into your festivities—and it can be fun!
Moving regularly—even in small ways—helps with the digestion of those big meals, boosts your mood and keeps your energy levels high.
Instead of sitting all day, take advantage of the extra free time you have to move in ways that feel good. Your body (and brain) will thank you for it.
Quick tips:
Catch up with a friend over a walk around the neighborhood.
Organize active get-togethers like hikes, friendly football matches, or go swimming.
Dance to your favorite songs. It’s a fun way to sneak in cardio.
#4: Balance the indulgence
The holidays are a time to enjoy delicious food—but balance is key.
Overindulging too often can leave you feeling bloated and sluggish. Being mindful of what and how much you eat lets you savor your favorite treats without overdoing it.
Eating a mix of indulgent and nutrient-rich foods keeps your body fueled and feeling great.
Quick tips:
Include a fruit or veggie with every meal.
If you overindulge in a one meal, make the next one lighter and nutrient-dense.
Have a side salad with your main dish.
Bonus Tip: Practice gratitude
While the holiday season is filled with cheer and making merry, for some, it can also bring bring stress, loneliness, or a tendency to compare yourself to others (thank you, Instagram).
Practicing gratitude grounds you and shifts your focus to the things that truly matter. It’s a proven practice that boosts mental health, and is especially helpful during holiday season.
No matter how challenging your year has been, there’s always something to be grateful for if you look keenly.
Quick tips:
Reflect on one thing you’re grateful for each day, no matter how small.
Call or text a loved one to let them know you appreciate them.
Spend time in nature and find joy in the ordinary moments.
Here’s to a healthy and happy holiday season!
